If you’re looking for a way to clear a clog or keep up a clog-prone drain to prevent a problem, look no further than under your kitchen sink.

Try pouring about 3/4 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a 1/2 cup of vinegar. Cover the drain with a cloth of some kind and wait 30 minutes while your chemistry experiment bubbles and fizzes. After the half hour is up, pour a kettle of boiling water down the drain. Voila! This has worked for me a few times–a quick, natural fix that prevents having to run to the store or run to a plumber.
