Obviously, not everyone can sell their car today and buy a hybrid. Or, heck, sell their home and move to the city so they can walk everywhere.
But there are still some very simple things anyone can do to save gas and money. The Daily Green has a terrific overview of 10 things you can do to save 20% or more on fuel. Some highlights:
- Keep your car properly serviced. Make sure you have a clean air filter, your car’s alignment is straight and your engined is tuned. You can increase your fuel economy up to 10%.
- Keep your tires properly inflated. This alone can improve fuel efficiency by nearly 3%.
- Slow down on the highway — every 5 mph you slow down improves your fuel efficiency by 7%.
- Drive more smoothly. If you’re constantly accelerating and then hitting the breaks, you’re losing fuel economy by up to 33% on the highway and 5% in town. Take your foot of the gas and coast when you know an exit or red light is coming up.
Check out the complete list — it’s worth committing to memory.
Now then, back to fantasizing about that new car …
