3G: why so great?

With all the hubbub over the unveiling of the July 11th release date of Apple’s 3G iPhone, we thought it would be good to go over exactly why 3G (3rd Generation) phones are so great.

1. Enhanced multimedia. You’ll be able to do stuff like live video streaming or conference calls to all your friends. Think portable Skype or constant live mini-camcorders everywhere.
2. Wide operating zone (from techtarget.com: "should be operational from any location on, or over, the earth’s surface,
   including use in homes, businesses, government offices, medical
   establishments, the military, personal and commercial land vehicles,
   private and commercial watercraft and marine craft, private and
   commercial aircraft (except where passenger use restrictions apply),
   portable (pedestrians, hikers, cyclists, campers), and space stations
   and spacecraft").
3. Roaming capability throughout Europe, Japan, and North America.
4. Broad bandwidth (~2.4 Mbps – same as cable Internet) for faster web browsing, streaming video, etc.
