In the 1987 movie "Adventures in Babysitting", Chris (Elisabeth Shue) realized she was being two-timed by her boyfriend, Mike (Bradley Whitford), thanks to spotting his personalized license plate "SO COOL" in front of a restaurant. Ever wonder what good a personalized license plate does other than cater to an individualized statement (or help discover unfaithful significant others)? As it turns out, many states (California included) use the funds collected from personalized license plate fees to go towards the environment and other state causes! One can also choose from cause-specific license plates for anything from helping fund Olympic Training Centers to Veterans’ Organizations to Arts Councils to Coastal Commissions. An example of California’s special interest plates can be found by clicking here. Other staters should check with their local DMV’s website to see what their offerings include.
