No, you’re not pregnant. No, your girlfriend hasn’t gained a few extra pounds and is desperate to hide them. In all actuality, the tunic has been a staple of fashion for the past year or so. Its popularity has been steady in a large part by its versatility (and, admittedly, all the celebs sporting them due to pregnancy). Who knew maternity garb could be so Vogue? But, beware! It can be a disaster if worn without taste! Below are some of our favorite ways to wear the tunic.
- beach cover-up – Wear a tunic directly over your swimsuit/bikini as an ultra cute and trendy cover-up.
- with leggings – Pair a tunic with leggings and heels or boots for a hip look. Go with extra layers on top (e.g. longsleeve shirt, scarf) to create that boho chic appearance.
- with skinny jeans – If you go with this look, be sure that you’re either: a) slim in figure (read: smaller in the thigh/rear areas), or b) have a long enough tunic to completely cover your inner thighs and rear to balance out your figure. Another tip: wear fuller knee-high boots to make your thighs appear slimmer.
- with shorter shorts – The best shorts are actually looser ones of a contrasting color to the tunic. Pair with some cute heels and you’re ready to go clubbing comfortably!
- as a dress – Just be sure that the tunic is a longer one if you choose this route. You don’t want to end up looking like you took style tips from Britney Spears, do you?
Bottom line: Don’t wear a tunic by itself and expect it to look chic. You’ve got to wear accessories and play with layers, adding your own individual flair.
