Who knew the science of separating vegetables was so detailed? One example: one must consider whether the produce is an ethylene emitter and store with ONLY others of its kind.   • Never refrigerate and keep them separate from each other: potatoes, onions, winter squash, garlic
  • Never refrigerate: avocados, bananas (unripe), nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, tomatoes
  • Refrigerate: apples, apricots, cantaloupe, figs, honeydew
  • Keep these away from all of those named above: bananas (ripe), broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, lettuce and other leafy greens, parsley, peas, peppers squash, sweet potatoes, watermelon
