Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) use about 75% less energy and last around 10 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs. Thus, they cut down on energy bills and solid waste. The only catch is to be careful when disposing of these bulbs! Since they contain a small amount of mercury, you must drop them off at a specified recycling center rather than simply throwing them in the trash:
- Even if you didn’t buy it there, you can return any CFL bulb to IKEA.
