225pxgalagaWe thought our memories of afternoons playing Galaga or Zelda would remain blissfully untarnished, until our resident simplehuman web guru, Adena, pointed us to this article on www.1up.com in which the classic games of our youth were given to a panel of 11 year old kids….who ripped them to shreds. We would be crushed if the kids’ reviews weren’t some of the funniest spot-on commentary we’ve read in a long time.  Here’s a snippet on Galaga:

EGM: Now imagine you’ve reached the 10th stage, and you’re on your last life. Once you die and you put another quarter in, you don’t just continue from there-you start all over.
Parker: Are you serious?
EGM: Yup. When you lose all your lives, you have to start over. You don’t keep going.
Parker: And you guys back then were OK with this?

A little off topic for us, but if you remember playing any of these games, sharing a laugh is a great design strategy.

I call BS on that article.

Half of those comments are not from the mouths of 11 year-olds.

Damn. I loved Galaga as a kid. As well as Galaxian, Mag Max, etc. I think this weekend, I am going to download some arcade game emulators like MAME, etc… :-)

I don’t know, Jeff. They have the pictures of the kids up on the top of the page? But I agree these are some pretty sophisticated comments from 11 year olds…
