Utensilholder_bow3I’ve always wondered how to tie those gorgeous, elaborate bows done by professional gift wrappers. My presents always look like they’ve been sat on by the dog, even after hours of painstaking effort. Just in time for the holidays, I came across interior decorator Jonathan Fong’s website with plenty of great decorating ideas–including, how to tie a perfect bow! In five steps, I made a beautiful bow perfect for presents and decorating. Try it for yourself with Jonathan Fong’s simple steps:

Bowstep1_31. Tie a piece of ribbon around the package and tie a knot. Cut the ends, leaving a few inches of ribbon on each side.
Bowstep2_12. Fold a long piece of ribbon accordion-style, with four loops on each side.
Bowstep3_13. Cut into the center of the fold diagonally about 1/3 in on each side.
Bowstep44. Using the ends of the ribbon on the box, tie the accordion fold onto it, into the diagonal cuts.
Bowstep55. Fluff up the loops.
